3 Tips for Proper technique/form

1) Perfect practice makes perfect:
Firstly have a professional look at the way you perform the movement (bench, squat, deadlift, overhead etc...). Have them critique and listen for exercise ques. By practicing form incorrectly you are reinforcing faulty recruitment patterns which could lead to plateaus or even injury. Practice perfect form and try not to sacrifice form for weight lifted.
2) Lower weights under control:
As a general rule you will be stronger in the eccentric (lowering portion) portion of the movement, use this fact to your advantage and lower the weight slower than the concentric (lifting) portion. You could have your training partner help lift the load and you lower under control.
3) Recognize your phase:
Training for strength/size and training for power/explosiveness are 2 different training goals. One requires technique where you feel the muscle doing the work the second requires the weight to be lifted with less emphasis on working muscle. Choose one or the other and phase in and out of each.
